Microneedling

What is microneedling?

Microneedling, or collagen induction therapy (CIT), is a minimally invasive treatment used to help improve signs of skin damage. The process uses the body’s natural ability to repair itself, to encourage new tissue growth, and to heal signs of aging.

Using a specialized device, microneedling uses tiny needles to damage the skin in a controlled way, on and around the blemishes on your face. As your skin heals, new tissue is created that is rich in elements like collagen and elastin, making your skin look younger, smoother, and firmer.

What types of skin damage can be helped by microneedling?

Microneedling has been shown to improve a number of skin conditions, including:

  • Wrinkles and fine lines
  • Uneven color
  • Acne and other scars
  • Large pores
  • Age or sun spots

During your initial consultation, Dr. Zaka takes time to understand the concerns you may have and helps you gain realistic goals for the appearance of your skin.

What does a microneedling treatment entail?

On the day of your treatment, Dr. Zaka applies a numbing cream to your face, which takes about an hour to be fully effective. Once your skin is numb, Dr. Zaka uses the microneedling device to make small pinpricks in your skin.

She treats the area of your blemish, as well as the area immediately around it, to encourage even results. After your procedure, a special serum is applied to help with pain and stimulate healing.

Treatments take around 30 minutes to complete and you can return to normal activities immediately. You may have some swelling and redness for a few days, but this normal and most likely resolves on its own.

Your treatment plan may require multiple treatments to reach your ideal goals. You may also choose to pair this treatment with a chemical peel or platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections for enhanced results.

What are PRP injections?

PRP is a powerful serum created by concentrating elements of your own blood. Using a sample of blood, taken on the day of your procedure, a serum rich in healing properties is specially prepared.

This serum is injected in and around the site where you receive your microneedling treatment, which boosts the tissue-healing potential of the treatment and helps to even more effectively heal your damaged skin.
