Botox and Fillers

What is Botox?

Botox refers to an FDA-approved toxin that works to eliminate the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles on your face.

Derived from the botulinum toxin, Botox temporarily paralyzes the muscles in your face to prevent them from contracting. The less they contract, the less they’ll pull on the skin in your face and create wrinkles.

What is a dermal filler?

A dermal filler works similarly to Botox, except it typically functions as an implant. This type of injectable implant works to restore elasticity and volume in your face. Dr. Zaka might recommend fillers to address the following issues:

  • Lip volume loss
  • Facial contours
  • Crow’s feet and lines
  • Creases and wrinkles
  • Scars

Dr. Zaka can recommend various types of dermal fillers to address the above.

What are common types of dermal fillers?*

At Medical Aesthetics & Laser, Dr. Zaka uses three main types of dermal fillers:

Dysport®

Dysport is a prescription injection that Dr. Zaka uses to smooth out the frown lines, be them mild or severe, located between your eyebrows.

During your consultation with Dr. Zaka, she performs up to six injections between and above your eyebrows to temporarily halt muscle contractions in the area. These injections are extremely localized so you won’t feel any numbness and limited range of motion in other areas of your face.

Juvéderm®

Juvéderm is a highly effective dermal filler that focuses on eliminating fine lines and wrinkles, and on plumping up areas of your face that have suffered from volume loss.

Juvéderm uses hyaluronic acid to achieve results. Hyaluronic acid is a natural substance that your body produces. When its production levels drop, your skin suffers from dehydration and structure loss. Juvéderm works to stimulate your hyaluronic acid production to restore your youthful glow.

Restylane®

Similar to Juvéderm, Restylane is a hyaluronic acid-based dermal filler that Dr. Zaka can recommend to address any of the following issues:

  • Nasolabial folds
  • Scars
  • Cheek volume loss
  • Creases and wrinkles
  • Lip deflation

Restylane acts like the natural hyaluronic acid in your body would, absorbing water and delivering essential nutrients to the skin. Once injected, Restylane fills in the affected and sunken areas.

Depending on the aesthetic issue you’re looking to treat, Dr. Zaka can recommend the best dermal filler for the most effective and painless result.
